About RECOVER

"When I watched your trailer yesterday, I was literally sitting here trying to talk myself out of going to a meeting because I just didn't feel like it. As soon as I shared it, I grabbed my keys and went to that meeting. You have no idea how great it feels when people who aren't addicts try to understand us, because you can never fully understand how cunning, baffling and powerful out disease is, and you still put forth the effort. So many people don't care to try. Thank you for making this film." -- Sara James, Birmingham, AL

"I am so looking forward to seeing your new film "Recover". This is such a meaningful topic to me. I haven't shared with many people but my son who just turned 15 has been struggling with addictions and overdosed last year. This is something that impacts anyone from anywhere. Thank you for creating something that can potentially help people understand that and show people how addiction is a true disease." -- Anonymous

"This film can spark a dialogue in this country that has never been started before and much needed...are we chasing a cure for addiction or chasing the profit that being addicted makes???" -- Reginald Jackson, New York, NY

"He collapsed right in front of me. But the treatment center said we were forbidden from calling 911 within the building because it would tarnish their image. He died right there."
- Former Addiction Treatment Center Staff Member

One out of every seven people is afflicted with the physiological disease of addiction; more than those suffering from heart conditions, diabetes, or cancer, combined. Over 700,000 people seek treatment for addiction in the United States every day. There is hardly anyone who has not been affected by the ravages caused by the fallout of this misunderstood disease. It is a silent epidemic which is spreading worldwide and there are those who would profit from this deadly disease.

It's time for a change. And RECOVER is that spark for a change.

What began as a feature documentary, has grown into a mission to reach all those who have and who continue to struggle with any kind of recovery and to arm them with knowledge to better help themselves as they go through the recovery system. RECOVER aims to expose the practices and all of the things not currently working, and to show the good people who are working so hard to actually treat people of a disease, which has claimed far too many lives.

The first experience of the RECOVER movement is the ground breaking documentary. The film is an introduction to the concept of what it means to RECOVER; that is, "to regain a former and better state or condition"; to regain one's health, one's life, one's world. The film will be an invitation to join a global movement which is inspiring people, communities, governments, and countries to more closely examine and investigate the devastating broken systems ravaging the world. RECOVER is about shifting the paradigm of power for healing and recovery from countless physical, social, economic, and environmental afflictions back into the hands of the people. RECOVER is a world-wide platform for communication and collaboration to create the change so desperately needed right now.

THE FILM
THE SERIES
The documentary will be the story of two filmmakers on a journey to expose and hopefully change some of the truths of today's addiction recovery system, while also exploring the cutting edge treatments that actually work at the core of the problem. With one filmmaker having experienced the ravages of addiction first hand and the other not, their mutual journey of discovery will be the window for the audience to shifting that paradigm of power into their hands with the knowledge of what's wrong, and what is possible. The follow-up 10 episode series will explore the concept of RECOVER even further than the documentary. It will tell personal stories and provide even more perspective about a system in need of its own recovery. Each episode would tell two personal stories, of one person who struggled within the system, and one who found a better way to succeed in their recovery. The topics would range from addiction, to mental health, to cancer recovery, the prison system, PTSD, domestic violence, welfare, GMOs, and more.
THE MUSIC
A GLOBAL COMMUNITY
Through music, we plan to reach our audience on an even deeper level and express the unspoken emotions of people who have struggled with recovery. Artists from around the world have already begun submitting their music for the project. Through a number of music releases even in advance of the film, we hope to attract an even broader demographic who will not only love the music but will also be brought in to the RECOVER project and community in advance of the film. Music so often expresses what we can't express in words. The mission of RECOVER is also to connect, support, and enlighten those in recovery, those impacted by recovery in some way, and to educate people on the advancements that could truly help. It will exist through social media networks, local community meet-ups, schoolyards, national summit events, and more. Culling together the most innovative and effective treatment modalities, creating a curriculum to educate teens struggling with addiction, and providing a safe place for survivors to connect -- that is our mission.
